By Elizabeth Daniels'41, Vassar College Historian

At the time of Vassar's centennial celebration in 1961, Dorothy Plum and George Dowell compiled and wrote a selective chronology of Vassar history. My electronic chronology is a close adaptation and supplement of their work on paper, and I thank them and those before them, for their research and exposition. A future phase of this chronology will extend it to 1996. This compendium should provide a helpful research tool and information clearing house tempting others into the byroads of Vassar history which can be discovered in sources in Special Collections in the Vassar College Libraries.

An Index of People and Events in Vassar History

Note: The information from between 1792 and March, 1961 is courtesy of The Great Experiment: A Chronicle of Vassar by Dorothy A. Plum and George B. Dowell. The Great Experiment is a book created for the College's 100th anniversary in 1961. It has been modified for this format by Elizabeth Daniels '41, college historian, and her student assistant, Jessica Thaler '96.

The information from between April, 1961 and May, 1975 has been extracted from the Miscellany News (1961-75) and the Vassar College Scrapbooks (July, 1966 - December, 1975) by Elizabeth Daniels and her student assistants, Sara R. Lehrhoff '99, David Ley '98, Jeremy Linden '00 and Amanda Forman, '00. As of this moment, the information from 1971 to May, 1975 has been indexed chronologically, but not yet topically.
