Mihai Grünfeld obtained his B.A. (1977) in Spanish and French from the University of Toronto, in Canada, his M.A. (1980) in Spanish from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and his Ph.D. (1987) in Latin American Literature from University of California at Berkeley. At Vassar since 1987, he teaches in the Department of Hispanic Studies language, culture and literature courses and is a participating faculty in the Latin American and Latino Studies Program. He was the Director of the Vassar Wesleyan Program in Madrid in 1992-93 and 2006-07, and the Director of the Vassar College Summer Language Program in Oaxaca, Mexico in 2004 and 2005. In the Dean of Studies Office (2002-2005) he was the Advisor to the Class of 2005. His research is on Mexican Muralism and on modern Latin American culture, especially the Avant-Garde as an intersection between literature and arts.
Mihai Grünfeld has published Antología de la poesía latinoamericana de vanguardia (1995), articles on modernismo and the Avant-Garde, and short stories. A first part of his autobiography entitled “The Blue Lighter". Stories of growing up in Romania” will be published this fall.
