Course Requirements
1) Regular Attendance and careful preparation of assignments. Since this seminar only meets once a week, anyone who misses more than 2 classes without a doctor's note cannot receive a passing grade. Films that are not shown in class will be shown on Wednesday evenings. Students who are unable to attend screenings are responsible for viewing the films on their own time.2) Response Papers that raise specific questions and issues to be considered in class (1-2 pages due Sunday 4:00pm, by Email or by hard copy in 103 Blodgett). Students are required to turn in a minimum of six response papers before the beginning of final paper presentations.
3) Weekly Joint Presentations by two seminar members. Presenters should consult with the instructor on the Tuesday before the presentation and again on Monday before class.
4) Field work: A detailed analysis of a painting, sculpture, film, festival, website, natural manifestation (like a river), påjà, or practice associated with the Goddess (5 pages).
5) Final Research Paper (15-25pp.) or project to be completed by the 14th of December (abstracts and bibliography are due on Nov. 6) and presented in class. In most cases students will need to work with resources outside of the Vassar College library (either through inter-library loan or through visits to New York City).
