TEXTBOOK: Schmidt-Knielsen, Knut, Animal Physiology, 4th ed. Cambridge University Press, New York, 1990.
GRADING:
Exams:
Two one-hour in-class exams @ 15% each: 30%
One regularly-scheduled two-hour final 20%
Oral Reports:
Two in-lab 20-minute oral reports @ 10% each 20%
Lab Reports:
Three lab reports
(Muscle, kidney, and one optional) @ 10% each 30%
GENERAL MISCELLANY:
Attendance in labs is required. If you miss a lab without authorization you will be docked 5% of your final grade and will not be able to write a report on that lab (an additional penalty of varying severity). Attendance in lecture is expected; attendance will be taken periodically. Excessive absences will influence your grade negatively, while consistent attendance and preparedness will influence it positively. NOTE BENE: Please do not come late to class or leave during class! Such behavior is impolite to me and to your classmates.
Late work will be penalized by a reduction in grade by 5% per day including weekends. Please do not ask for extensions, as none will be given except for medical reasons. If you choose to delay handing in work because of other commitments, be prepared to accept the penalty. Lab reports are due no later than the lab day of the week following the collection of data. Please be warned that in this era of word processors, sloppy work such as misspellings and typos are not acceptable. If I decide that a piece of work is unready for submission I will return it to you and it will be considered late, i.e., it will already have lost 5% and the late clock will be ticking until an acceptable version is submitted.
