McGuckian says that her poems concern the "meaning of the experience." Her interest is not in stories or narratives, she "wouldn't want to say it directly," rather she wants to get at the experience. But she does not want the experience itself, instead she wants the meaning of that event.

I would argue, however, that in order to get at McGuckian's "meaning" the reader needs to experience the poem. We need to arrive at the place of her experience in order to "feel" her meaning.
