Jim Andrews, Vis Po author, experiments a great deal
with "cut ups" and morphisms, text that is combined and recombined and separated
and melded all at the same time. Andrews said about his project of creating cut up texts that both he and his colleagues "shared in email a sense that there was something about the cut up that we couldn't quite put our finger on, that was eluding us but was compelling and beyond us." (Andrews, Jim. "Stir Frys and Cut Ups." http://www.vispo.com/StirFryTexts/text.html [Accessed 4 November 1999].) I think this sense has to do with a realness, a life-likeness cut-ups bring to text. Cutting up experiences and others words and thoughts and combining them and recombining them with our own are what our minds do, how we live, learning from experience, as the phrase goes. |
