Michele Tugade earned her Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the

University of Michigan.  After earning her doctorate, she then

completed a National Research Service Award (NRSA)

Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (from NIMH) in the Emotional

Experience Laboratory of Boston College.  She joined the faculty

of Vassar College in 2004 and she is currently an Assistant

Professor in the Department of Psychology.

Dr. Tugade’s research focuses on positive emotions,

emotional experience, and emotion regulation.  She

investigates the function of positive emotions in the coping

process and the mechanisms that promote resilience in the

face of stress and adversity. She also examines the

structure and dynamics of emotional experience and emotion

regulation.  Her program of research incorporates multiple

research methodologies, including laboratory-based

experiments, experience-sampling methodology, and

psychophysiological measurement procedures. Her research

has been supported by grants from the National Institute of

Mental Health and the National Science Foundation.
